TAMUK`s school newspaper, the South Texan, is a way of keeping up with our sports news. It is relevant to our online site in case we leave information out. Our main goal for our site is to get students involved and learn something new about our campus activities. We also would like to get some to participate in something they never tried or would like to try. The paper was founded in 1925 by our very own here in Kingsville. The issue of the paper is weekly therefore we are updated with the latest news. Texas A&M University- Kingsville is the owner of the paper.
The paper is published to provide information for the campus news, entertainment, opinions, lifestyles, and sports. Not only does it give to the students on campus, the community is also informed of our recent activities going on. The community has the option to watch or participate in the activities and festivities available to them. Publishing of the paper gives what was left off in the information that the school website can’t tell us. Contributors of this paper have worked professionally around the south Texas area for years.(South Texan News)
Featured articles are included in the paper. World- wide topics and the lives of some athletes are reviewed in the features. For instance, what local community doesn’t love to watch college sports and being that the community has its own college surrounding, they like to be informed with the events taking place. We gain more support and help from those interested in doing so. Our achievements, downfalls, and events are advertised every week. My favorite features to read are the insiders of our sports that are taking place. It covers our players´ opinions on how they feel and what experiences they under take during a game (South Texan). My favorite article is the one about our injured quarterback and his opinion about his injury (South Texan)
The school also has a radio station called KTAI-FM 91.1 “The One” (TAMUK). It broadcast or events live. It is run by volunteer students that go to our very on campus. The station broadcast to Kingsville’s community, students, and a couple of surrounding areas can also tune into our events taking place. They report live on the scene. The station has been around for years. The stations website can be found on the school and newspapers website for information and details. You can listen to the station online, a phone app, or the radio station.
